OGIO RENEGADE VAULT

Ogio Renegade Vault: The Curated Carry-On

By Kristina Moskalenko

Traveling through airports and train stations with OGIO Renegade Vault Carry-On is like traveling through life with a great partner. Because in a way, when you travel, your luggage becomes your partner. Is it strong, reliable, flexible and organised? Here is a good place to start. If their utterly discreet and stylised looks make the local concourse’s eyes widen and leaves you with an effortless smile — it’s cherry on the cake. So if you are looking for a travel partner for life — OGIO Renegade Vault has it all.

You might pay slightly more for OGIO than for the average luggage, but every great relationship comes at a price, doesn’t it?

The real OGIO luggage value comes with the fact that its quality and looks are not just slightly above average, but rather — premium.

The handle alone makes me happy. It has a grip like the gear shift in a rare high-performance car, one of those manual transmissions requested by someone who loves precision.

The lock? Tiny but strong, with a satisfying click like an expensive bracelet clasping. Press it just right, and it whispers: your valuables are safe, your precious stones won’t get lost.

But the most special facet of OGIO luggage — the wheels — deserve their own gospel. You don’t wheel them — you dance with them. It’s like a ballroom waltz with the luggage in the terminal. The suitcase moves intuitively, responding to every subtle flick of your fingers. Every step feels choreographed.

All of the above doesn’t come as a surprise to those familiar with the brand. But if one hasn’t  heard about OGIO, this seminal brand originates from the golfing world. So the wheels come, obviously, through, over and above the grass. OGIO has been making golf carts for 25 years, and they’ve actually figured out how to craft wheels that can be smoothly manipulated over grassy golf courses. Grass-tested, performance-driven expertise. So when they bring that know-how to the luggage, airports, trains, and hotel lobbies, the difference is dancing-level smooth.

Another interesting tenure is internal luggage organisation. I am travelling from London to Portsmouth’s Queens Hotel with my Renegade Vault Carry-On in dark blue. Inside there’s a complete minimalist, Marie Kondo-inspired organisational system: eight internal pockets, a shoe/laundry bag, a hidden AirTag pocket, compression panels with zip pockets, a hidden passport pocket, even a dust bag. Packing suddenly feels like a crafted science.

Here I have to admit, that, although I am a frequent traveller, I don’t think I did justice to my Renegade Vault Carry-On while leaving this morning. I felt like packing my briefs, tights and shoes required more curation, because the internal organizers and insertsrequired so. But I will rise to the OGIO’s order level. Sometimes, you just have to grow into what you are wearing, or, wheeling.

There is one more thing that is important about personal luggage for me — the top part of the suitcase. It needs to be wide and flat enough to safely keep a purse, a jacket and some small things, like a scarf, — one needs to quick pack thoughtlessly and access, while chasing, pacing and travelling. We all know, how annoying it is, when you run through the airport to just make it to your flight, and suddenly you need to worry about your hand bag gliding down the case, moving at full velocity. OGIO Renegade Vault Carry-On in that sense is stress-free, as the handle and the top of the bag are wide, stable and travelsafe. The spacious top area has space, but also is compact enough to fit as a carry-on in most commercial flights.

By the way, the handle grip comes from the premium golf grips, made of rubberised, luxury silicone, and synthetic leather blends. And yes, I’m not a golfer, but I do know those high-end, gold-infused silicone bracelets they call “liquid gold.” So, rubber and silicone — no matter how it sounds at first — can actually be luxurious these days. And in OGIO piece it is — making it feel and look good.

During the lunch at the Queens Hotel in Portsmouth Michael Birch, head of OGIO EMEA, said: “At OGIO, we know travel isn’t one-size-fits-all, and that is exactly why we are continuing to produce more fresh and exciting products for an array of travellers. Whether you’re venturing off-grid or heading to a boardroom across the globe, our newest innovations deliver exactly what today’s traveller needs, without compromising on performance or style”.

But it’s not only luggage that OGIO is proud of. For 25 years they had been making high-quality bags, backpacks, luggage, and travel accessories designed for durability, functionality, and style. Their innovation and craftsmanship are aimed at athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, and professionals who need reliable gear that performs — and looks good doing it. This wing of the brand traditionally gets high ratings for robust construction and thoughtful organisation. Users praise designs that are stylish, feature-rich, and built to last.

That’s exactly my vibe — durable, functional, and aesthetically beautiful. I love things that are durable and well-made — like the old-fashioned kind that could last a hundred years.

Aesthetically beautiful objects balance my mood and make me feel good. So even my luggage needs to feel and look like it belongs in a museum or boutique.

So is it worth paying a premium? For me it is. Quiet luxury, precise design, durability, real comfort, and aesthetic pleasure. Imagine — you enter the massive double door of your hotel and can’t wait to dance with the luggage across these marble floors!

Even an early morning train doesn’t stand a chance against this level of joy.

It is also great to travel through life with safe and adapting partner.
